Since the early days of the company, RECo has been involved in Bridge MSE walls for bridges and bridge related application developments, working with clients all across Canada. We offer a wide range of engineering solutions that have proven to be the perfect fit for Bridge Abutments and Buried Bridge Structures.

We provide complete bridge designs with our prefabricated arches and in addition, we have developed the expertise needed to accommodate a wide variety of bridge configuration requirements by the Provincial DOTs and local governments. We design the bridge abutment too to fit the needs of the superstructure.

Because of the flexibility of the Reinforced Earth® MSE technology, bridge abutments can be built on compressible ground and in most instances without any need for deep foundations. Reinforced Earth® MSE integral-bridge-abutments eliminate or reduce the need for structural bearings and expansion joints, which significantly reduces operating and maintenance costs. Our MSE bridge abutment design can vary greatly depending on the bridge superstructure and foundation we closely work with the bridge engineer to ensure all considerations are made, including loading and geometry constraints. > True abutments: This is the most optimal solution when highly competent foundations exist. The primary bridge structure is rested on a spread footing directly supported by a Reinforced Earth soil retaining structure without using piles.

> False Abutments: This is the most common type of MSE bridge abutment, where the bridge is rested on a footing on piles with a reinforced soil retaining structure providing only the earth retention.

We can offer single or multiple-span arch bridges, with a wide range of arch profiles. These bridges are fully engineered by RECo, using TechSpan® precast concrete arches and retaining walls in harmony with traffic barriers and coping. These structures are designed to be flexible and to accommodate movement while supporting heavy dynamic loads induced by vehicular traffic such as trucks, trains, and aircraft. These bridges are a cost effective alternative to cast-in-place bridges and can be used for hydraulic crossings, pedestrian access pathways below roadways, and multiple other applications.

Wildlife crossings can also utilize arch bridges with a different use rather than vehicular movement on top. These crossings are widely used where a high volume of animals’ cross human-made structures or barriers making it a safe passage to prevent injuries to both the animals and humans.

The MSE bridge abutment solution is now regularly used for building two different types of bridge abutments, described below:

Arch Bridges
